Game Art
Our Game Art course mixes high level creativity with cutting edge technology and supports you to find your passion within a broad-ranging subject. Our approach is based on authentic experience with strong industry links, giving you the opportunity to tackle live briefs, collaborative practice, and master industry standard software. You will graduate with the skills needed to pursue careers as character artists, environment artists, concept artists, and technical artists, among many other possibilities.

The Lost Bottles

A 3D environment based on many popular open world games. The focal point being the Lost Bottles, a tavern I designed and created using modular assets, inspired by historical taverns reaching back to the 14th century.

To make a more diverse and realistic world I looked into using Speedtree. This helped me create more naturalistic trees and foliage to improve my scene.

One of a series of character designs for a role playing game, this character is an archer who grew up in a forest village alongside his father. My focus was to improve my shading and rendering skills.

Each of the characters I designed had distinct personalities and I tried to get this across through the use of shape language and choice of colour pallets.

A wrecked ship leans on a house made of stone. My aim for this project was focused on creating a realistically styled environment utilising the tools in Unreal Engine 5.

Substance
Designer

I wanted to explore the possibilities of procedural material creation using Substance Designer. I enjoyed learning about the PBR pipeline and how light affects the realism of each texture.

BMW E36

A Need for Speed inspired 3D model, based on a reference of my own car. Taking elements of 1990s and 2000s car culture as inspiration for modifications I have added.

With this project I have also explored creating my own Procedural PBR materials to add detail using Substance 3D Designer. They create a realistic texture, as can be seen on the paint and tail-lights here!

A science lab is nothing without its experiments. A tank containing a strange creature is the hero prop created for my scene. I strengthened my skills of 3d sculpting and creating uncommon textures, such as flesh.

Big Brother’s Lab

A small 3D environment of a cramped science lab built inside of a shipping container. My goal was to create an environment crowded with items that told a story of nostalgia and unease.

The concept/ turnaround sheet of my character Jade inspired by games such as Genshin Impact and Wuthering Waves. Her design is based off hydrangeas and Western dragon mythology.

I wanted to get across Valentine’s grace and softness in this piece. It was used as the basis for my 3D piece.

This character was redesigned and changed from my original concept to better fit into a hero shooter game such as Overwatch. I used dancers for inspiration as this character is a dexterity fighter. Valentine – Concept Paint I wanted to get across Valentine’s grace and softness in this piece. It was used as the basis.

The Lightsabers of my character, inspired by concept art from Adam Burn, Warner Bros. Pictures.

Magic Staff

A 3D staff modelled in Maya and textured in Substance Painter. It is part of a set with a matching spell book, that I made it to reflect my personal style.

A 3D spellbook modelled in Maya and textured in Substance Painter. The spellbook and staff would be used together in a fantasy game to cast spells.

Vivenull, The
Ethereal Ruins

An abandoned temple, situated in the Mexican jungle, inspired by games like Tomb Raider and Uncharted. This project showcased my ability to work in various industry- standard software and create a realistic environment.

Foliage Creation

During this project, I focused on developing my skills in foliage creation, making materials in Substance Designer, and realistic trees/plants in SpeedTree.

Lorelai: The
Weeping Bride

I wanted to design and illustrate a character to fit within the world of League of Legends. My aims for this project were to improve my foundational art skillset and to achieve the target semi- realistic style.

Porcelain Lorelai

This project challenged my ability to translate my character design into a different setting, by taking on a set theme, colour palette and storyline from the League of Legends world.
