Fine Art

…combines visual art practice with critical studies and places a strong emphasis on studio practice. Fine Art is at the forefront of cultural production, exploring new terrain and challenging existing ideas. Our course will allow you to become part of this momentum by entering into a community of artists, supported and encouraged to extend your creative work and ideas into new areas. During the course, you will create a substantial portfolio of work to showcase your technical and creative talents, culminating in your final show.

Agreed

My exhibition work explores the relationship between nostalgia and escapism. ‘Agreed’ romanticises normality with saturated pinks and purples, featuring several references to childhood nostalgia including the partnership of a person and an animal, commonly used in children’s stories.

Robbery

‘Robbery’ continues to feature several references to childhood nostalgia. The process of using simplistic humble materials, graphite pencil and paper, personally evokes a feeling of nostalgia in myself during the making process.

The Children’s
Table

My exhibition explores the transition to adulthood, from retreating from stress to reflecting on how past experiences shape the present. The Children’s Table captures childhood isolation alongside a nostalgic longing for the simplicity and innocence of youth.

A Tender Becoming

A Tender Becoming explores personal development during the transition from girlhood to womanhood; Navigating self-discovery, queerness, and sensuality, while highlighting the uncertainty and unpreparedness that can accompany this liminal phase.

ELOISE BRIGHTON

Jug with Oranges

A still life painting that draws inspiration from the work of Modern Masters, particularly Cézanne. It serves as an exploration of composition and reflects my effort to capture what I observe by closely examining how light and shadow interact with one another.

Vase with Apples

A still life painting where my colour choices are driven purely by aesthetics. I always opt for complementary shades to create visual harmony. When viewed up close, the abundance of blues throughout the painting becomes quite evident.

Solitude at dusk

Solitude at Dusk captures a quiet, reflective moment in nature. The gentle rhythm of slow living where time lingers, and silence speaks. The lone tree and quiet path invite stillness, honoring the beauty of simplicity, presence, and the tender hush of day’s graceful retreat.

A Promise of
Stillness

A Promise of Stillness captures a serene world untouched by haste. Soft greens and open skies cradle quiet homes, while a gentle path winds through the calm. It invites the viewer to pause, breathe deeply, and embrace a slower rhythm.

LAUREN TOLSON

Project 01

Lauren Tolson is a visual artist who combines her interests in advertising with her passion for sociopolitical topics including feminism, consumerism, the impacts of social media, and violence against women.

Project 02

Motivated by the 2024 declaration of violence against women as a ‘national emergency’ in the UK, this project juxtaposes imagery taken from often-misogynistic 1950s advertising with modern-day issues. She enjoys experimenting with satire and aims to produce work that promotes critical conversation around modern society.

The Pangolin

The endangered pangolin and pink undertone canvas hints at femininity, suggesting the pangolin’s connection to motherhood. The creamy tones representational of its false medical use and fate. The innocent expression reflects the vulnerability of babies and the pangolin’s own struggle.

The Badger and
the Shaman

The Shaman is reflected in the Badger’s eye, emphasising the spiritual essence of these sentient beings. The blue nose offers a glimpse into the deeper layers of the canvas, suggesting looking deeper within the creature to uncover its hidden truths.

TALLULAH HADLEY

Viking Funeral

An exploration of the soul’s journey to the afterlife, this piece depicts the funerary process of a viking in Norse mythology.

Pomegranate

Representing the divine feminine and the cycle of life, death and rebirth, the pomegranate is a symbol of Persephone the Queen of the Underworld in Greek Mythology.
