Sarah Hoey

"I have my Mother’s mouth and my Father’s eyes; on my face they are still together."
- Warsan Shire

Sarah Hoey is an Art and Design student who has been working with mixed media in her final year. Her work is based around the personal exploration of her dual-ethnicity looking into the sense of confusion and isolation that ties into the artist’s background and experiences.

Personalising the work with images of herself as an indication of ones identity, allowing the viewer to assimilate their own understanding of the imagery. Hoey has also combined text work from a Sanskrit language, Malayalam, originating from her Mother’s home, Kerala. This puts the viewers in a state of confusion, pushing them to accumulate a narrative out of subject matter they cannot comprehend, this correlates with Hoey’s relationship with the language.
