George Kadis

"Utilising a variety of mediums to portray the importance of ritualistic emblems in traditional ceremonies."
-

George Kadis’ practice focusses on death in traditional Greek culture and the Greek Cypriot orthodox church. This includes funerals and how we present the rituals and the reasons behind. He concentrates on sculptures, photography, painting and performance to demonstrate the importance of these objects to the ceremonies they have on different services. This work is made to give an individuality and identity to one of the chickens that human beings kill every day without thought. (52.673 chickens per minute for food which make it the second most popular after fishes). There is a humorous element that some people have found blasphemes, but adds to the message of his work.
