Amber Drew Sparrey’s practice explores fabricated femininity, gender and identity in the digital age. She does this through the construction of her alter ego, ‘Ambie Drew’ who plays the role of idealistic archetypes of women desperately seeking feminine perfection in a synthetic reality. Her work questions how we present ourselves as women through societies feminine ideals and analyses the consumption of beauty through the female gaze. Creating theatrical backdrops in a domestic space, she uses beauty products and objects she has collected as props to film with. Using large screen installation, she captures the visceral and grotesque nature of feminine rituals.
